Brightlingsea Carnival
60th Carnival
Saturday 19thJune 2010
Bayard Recreation Ground

Formed in the year 1951, and with half a Century behind it, Brightlingsea Carnival is still the biggest one day attraction in the Town calendar. The aim of Carnival is to encourage all groups, organisations, and families of all ages to enter into the spirit of Carnival and get involved, whether it is the activities that take place in the week prior to Carnival Day or on the day by taking part in the street procession and arena events. During its time there have been notable visitors to Carnival Day, two of them being Red Rum and Worzel Gummidge. These days the cost of a celebrity is expensive and it is felt that money raised on Carnival Day is better used by sharing it amongst the various organisations in Brightlingsea.

This years program is stating

"We hope you will join us again next year for our 60th celebration."

Has someone miscounted?

Chairman's Message

Hi everyone,

Well it's Carnival time again and our theme this year is "999 Emergency". We hope all our floats and procession participants will dress up to represent one of the emergency services. The Carnival is on 19th June on Bayard Recreation Ground. It has been a long winter so we hope the weather will be on its best behaviour, so that we can all have fun in the sun. As usual all donations from the procession will go to local groups and organisations. They need all the help they can get. This year our main beneficiary will be St John Ambulance Service. They turn up for our Carnival every year, to provide us with their First Aid services, many thanks to them for their help over the years.

Thank you
Our thanks must go to so many people who help to make this a fantastic day for all the town and visitors, here are just a few:

Town Council, Football Club, Cricket Club, YMCA, Bowling Club, Trace Autos, Osborn (Printers), Bob Shotton, Peter Patrick, Eric Garnham Reg Holdstock. A big thank you to all the Businesses and Shops who advertise in this programme. Their contributions ensures we can cover the cost of producing it. Of course my thanks must also go to the Carnival Committee: Brenden Cardy Vice Chairman, Janet Russell Treasurer, Leanne Thorne Secretary, Tracey Barton Carnival Court Secretary, Rita Loates, big Tony and young Tony Osborne, Bill Dobson, Alan Lowry and everyone else who helps to make this Carnival a continuing success.

We hope to see you all there on the day and look forward to seeing you again next year for our 60th Birthday Celebrations.Thank you everyone, Pip Osborne
